Excellent moist and flavorful green tea cake with whipped cream frosting and decorated with fresh fruit. The lady taking my order for a birthday cake for 36 correctly downsized my order to a cake for 30. She said that would be plenty big and she was correct. Appreciate the honesty. Excellent cake. Excellent price. Highly recommend
Came here on Sunday night to grab a cake! Got therir signature sponge cake whipped cream cake! It never disappoints. Kids and adults love! It's light and airy and not very sweet! Popular amongst older Asian generation who doesn't love overly sweet desserts! Thanks!
Old school Chinese bakery. Fast and friendly service. Serving basic bakery foods and the best sponge cake you can ever have! Their signature cake - Boston cream pie. It consists of two layers of fluffy sponge cake with a sweetened whipped cream in between. The cake is super light and delicious. They also make birthday cakes in different flavors. a must try if you're in the neighborhood. And they're Cash only.
This family owned bakery has been a staple in Flushing for 36 years (advised by the cute, elderly owner who helped me). The store is very small with nothing fancy, but people come for the consistent quality of baked goods and yummy cakes. The strawberry is my favorite - very light, fluffy and not very sweet. Btw, it's CASH only.
I really grew to appreciate this bakery. Their cakes are not fancy looking and they represent a standard traditional Chinese sponge cake. However, they are light and airy. The cream on the cake is not too sweet and very fresh. We came here to buy my daughter's birthday cake because American cake is just overly sweet and dense. At most places, I would scrape off most of the cream, but at Yeh's, I would love for them to double down on their cream! In fact, their Boston cream pie is the "double down" I'm talking about. If you haven't tried it, this must be on your bucket list!
The cake was fresh and light as expected. The place is a hole in the wall and very generic. If you need light fresh sponge cake it's a great spot. It was cash only and the service was quick and to the point. This is a quick no frills spot to grab a pastry and keep moving . If I crave this kind of cake I would go here again.
Still hands down one of the best cakes I've ever had. It's a bit out of the way but for their airy, fluffy, delicious strawberry cake, I come out there for all my occasions. It's really light and not overly sweet which is a big plus. Parking can be very limited unless you're there in the morning, then it's not too bad. The place is a bit small but the quality is top knotch. The service was very quick and friendly. I bought two strawberry cakes this past month and everyone finished it.
In modern NYC, where cream puffs barely as big as ping pong balls will set you back $5 or more, and laminated dough has been elevated to the echelons of fine art, and almost every new bakery seems most concerned with being Instagramable, Yeh's is a refreshing reminder that quality cakes and impressive pastries can still be acquired in a humble setting and at prices that don't require one to take out a second mortgage (figuratively speaking, of course, since almost nobody can afford to buy a home here). Small, quiet and dimly lit, Yeh's might not seem like a destination for slices of Boston cream pie (sans chocolate) or strawberry shortcake. But the bakery's looks are deceiving, because those classics and more await inside a long glass case that fills half the space. My wife and I tried a half-dozen sweets when we stopped in; everything was remarkably light, nothing was too sweet. Flavors were surprisingly similar among different items. One exception was the pineapple cookie, a real standout that has a buttery crust and is more akin to a pineapple pie. There are also some relatively savory options, such as a salted egg yolk with red bean paste in a light pastry shell. Across the board, prices are around $2 or $3 per item, so you really can't go wrong.
If you're looking for the best Chinese sponge cake, this is the place. I've had plenty of their chocolate, green tea and strawberry cake. Yes, it's 'not too sweet' - good! There's a supplement for fresh fruits. This year I was able to try out more of their other items like the seasonal chestnut cake, it was a bit underwhelming. The chestnut filling was not that rich nor sufficient. The quality of the chestnuts was not the best. I've also had some of their other pastries and I loved the buttercream cakes, butterfly cookie, salted egg yolk filled lotus mooncake!
